About Edgartown
map
Edgartown was founded in 1671 and is located in Dukes County on Martha's Vineyard. It was the first colonial settlement in Martha's Vineyard.

Those who visit Edgartown and are interested in historical land marks visit the Vincent House which was built in 1672 and is the oldest house on the island. It is now a museum as is the Thomas Cooke House.

Another house of interest is the Dr. Daniel Fisher House which is directly next door to the Old Whaling Church. The church has now been transformed into the Performing Arts Center. Read more information about visiting Edgartown at Senior Citizen Travel.

Farm.Field. Sea. Spring Bounty - Forage. Cook. Eat.
Join us to celebrate spring! This adventure is for people who are interested in the real deal of "eating seasonally." Learn about the wild edibles in the woods and on the shores of the Vineyard, the bounty of local gardens, and how the foraged spring foods bring a new dimension to your farm-fresh cooking. We will begin at Mass Audubon's Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary. Our guide will be Suzan Bellincampi, director of FNWS and author of "Martha's Vineyard: A Field Guide to Island Nature." Our tour will give us an immersive introduction to wild foods from the woods and shores, with a focus on arming you with the skills to identify wild edibles on your own. Learn about the ethics of foragingavoiding harvesting rare or endangered species, and making sure to take only what you need, so that wild plants may continue to reproduce. Our special guest will be Kristina Hook-Leslie, an elder in the Wampanoag tribe who grew up learning about foraging and preparing native food from her mother and grandmother in Aquinnah. A natural storyteller, she will share her experiences growing up on the island and how they subsisted on the land around them. Our adventure continues as we head into the kitchen with private chef and cookbook author Cathy Walthers, for a class on how to use and prepare locally grown spring foods, foraged greens, and other goodies. We will then gather together to get to know our new friends, over a lovely feast of the local bounty we have crafted into beautiful, vibrant dishes. It is important to note that Felix Neck is a teaching lab therefore we will not forage or fish while the class is in session. But don't worry! We will sample many foraged 'goodies' along the way and you will be armed with enough knowledge to be able to find edibles on your next walk in the woods or by beach on your own! The adventure includes foraging, storytelling, a hands-on cooking class, and breakfast and lunch. 9am-3pm $250pp Photo by Kristen Conklin

101 of cheesemaking
Explore the 101 of artisan (hand-made) cheesemaking on Martha's Vineyard - understand why 'sense of place' - the land, the animals, the farmers and the community create incredible, unforgettable cheese. The adventure begins at The FARM Institute in Katama where we will experience the rhythm and hum of a working teaching farm. Meet TFI's animals, visit its vibrant gardens, and learn about the different breeds of cows and how the characteristics of the land and Vineyard weather contribute to the creation of special cheeses. Along the way, we also gather items to use in the design of our own edible centerpieces for our dining tables. Then we will head into the kitchen with head cheesemaker Jacqueline Fosterthe brilliance behind the cheese at Chilmark's The Grey Barn Farm. She will take us through the history of cheesemaking, and you'll partner with other students to make your own fresh ricotta and mozzarella. After a homemade lunch on the farm, we will sample 6 different cheeses and discuss the styles and flavors of new American farmstead varieties. By the end of the day, you will have the knowledge, experience, and recipes to make your own cheese at home, and the flair for designing edible centerpieces from goodies growing right outside your door. Donavon Frankenreiter @ Flatbread MV!
TPS Productions presents Donavon Frankenreiter back on Martha's Vineyard! This time around Donavon will be coming with a Trio format to perform cuts off his latest 2012 release, 'Start Livin'. This event is part of the Martha's Vineyard SOUND Series and 5% of proceeds will be going to the Island Collaborative, a new non-profit here on the island. Don't miss this show! Frankenreiter started playing in the group Peanut Butter and Jam at the age of 18. In 1996 he began to seriously pursue a musical career when he formed the band Sunchild. In Sunchild, Frankenreiter was the lead guitar player but did not sing. The band had a 70s rock sound similar in style to The Black Crowes. They released their first CD, Barefoot & Live, on Surfdog Records in 1997. Produced by Gary Hoey, the live album featured covers of The Allman Brothers Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Rolling Stones, and Van Morrison, as well as several originals. California Honey followed in 2000 on their own Sunchild Records. This studio album is now out-of-print. Sunchild disbanded in 2001 and Frankenreiter pursued a solo career. Skipping ahead a bit, in early 2012, Donavon cut ties with band mates Eric Brigmond, Craig Barnette, and Pete Winders. He maintains ties with original band member Matt Grundy. In late 2012, Donavon added band members Paul Joseph Clark, Sam Bolle (Dick Dale, Fear, Agent Orange), and Ed Benrock (Watson Twins) to the touring lineup. Donavon is well known for his iconic mustache and quick-witted humor. His live show is entertaining and heart-felt. We look forward to seeing you at the show!

Venture behind the scenes with local sea and land farmers of Martha's Vineyard, then head into the kitchen for a cooking class with top Island chefs, and enjoy a farm feast created from the day's bounty. Owners Jim and Simon Athearn will take us around the farm to learn about the heritage and history of Island farming, and how to select the best of what the soil has to offer throughout the growing season. Into the kitchen we go for a hands-on cooking class with Morning Glory Farm's head chef Robert Lionette.
